Daily Flag Trap Quiz

Five rounds. You get a country name and four flags, and every wrong option is a flag that genuinely resembles the right one. Romania and Chad differ only in the shade of blue. Indonesia and Monaco are the same two bands in the same order and differ only in proportion.

The distractors are measured rather than chosen. Every flag in the archive is reduced to an 8×8 grid of colour and compared with every other, which catches layout as well as palette: a colour histogram alone would call Ireland and Italy identical while missing that Chad and Romania are the same flag. 42 of the 198 flags on file have at least one near-duplicate, and those are the only ones this game asks about.

Some of these pairs are accidents of history and some are not. Romania and Chad ended up nearly identical independently, and Chad raised the matter at the UN in 2004 without either side changing anything. Indonesia and Monaco differ only in proportion, and Indonesia's red-over-white predates Monaco's use of it by centuries. Australia and New Zealand both carry the Union Jack and the Southern Cross, differing in the number of stars and whether they are white or red. Knowing which of those is which is most of this game.
