North Macedonia
North Macedonia (officially Republic of North Macedonia) is a country in Southeast Europe, with its capital at Skopje, and is home to roughly 1.8M people.
Macedonian is the official language; the currency in circulation is denar (den); people from here are called Macedonian.

North Macedonia touches five neighbours: Albania to the west, Bulgaria to the northeast, Greece to the south, Kosovo to the northwest and Serbia to the north. Directions run from one centre to the other.
Skopje was rebuilt after a 1963 earthquake destroyed most of it, and then remodelled again in the 2010s with a large programme of neoclassical facades and statues.

The eight-rayed sun replaced an earlier design in 1995 after Greece objected that the Vergina Sun was a Hellenic symbol, a dispute that also kept the country's name contested until 2019.
