Senegal (officially Republic of Senegal) is a country in Western Africa, with its capital at Dakar, and is home to roughly 18.5M people.
French is the official language; the currency in circulation is West African CFA franc (Fr); people from here are called Senegalese.

Senegal touches five neighbours: Gambia to the southwest, Guinea to the southeast, Guinea-Bissau to the south, Mali to the east and Mauritania to the northeast. Directions run from one centre to the other.
Dakar sits on the Cap-Vert peninsula, the westernmost point of mainland Africa, and was the capital of French West Africa.
