Zambia touches eight neighbours: Angola to the west, Botswana to the southwest, DR Congo to the north, Malawi to the east, Mozambique to the southeast, Namibia to the southwest, Tanzania to the northeast and Zimbabwe to the south. Directions run from one centre to the other. Neighbours in seven different compass directions make this one of the better-connected outlines in the set.
Lusaka replaced Livingstone as capital in 1935, chosen for its central position and its place on the railway line.
